Where should you start reading?
Here's what Rebecca says: I often get asked what book or series of mine people should read first. All books are in written in past tense except for the Grimm Bargains books, which are in present tense. All of my books, regardless of genre, have some suspense and humor in them—as well as romance, of course.
ROMANTIC SUSPENSE SERIES (More info here on website)
This series is about a ragtag group of misfits at Homeland Defense that create a team with each member finding love during a suspenseful time. Each book features the romance of a different couple, told through multiple POVs. Their mascots are a German Shepherd who likes to wear high heels because he feels short, and a cat named Cat that likes to live in pockets and eat goldfish. The crackers, not real fish. Probably. The series starts with Hidden and continues on with new books being released every year.
These feature four brothers who’ve returned to their small Alaskan town in the middle of nowhere. Each book features the romance of one of the brothers along with a suspenseful situation that’s solved by the end. The books are told in multiple POVs. The first book is Dead of Winter.
These feature Laurel Snow, who’s an awkward genius and profiler now working out of her smallish Washington State home with a team - many readers love the secondary characters as well. There’s a slow burn romance with Fish and Wildlife Officer Huck Rivers, and each book involves a case. There are different POVs in this one, and a really fun antagonist who readers love to hate. The first book is called You Can Run.
This is a post-apocalyptic romance series. A bacteria wiped out 99% of the human race. For survivors, it affects their brains, either making them more intelligent, sociopathic, or animalistic. Jax Mercury, ex-gang member and ex-serviceman, returns to LA to create an inner city sanctuary against all of the danger out there, while hopefully finding a cure. Each book is a suspenseful romance between two people told in multiple POVs. The first book is Mercury Striking. There are four prequel novellas called The Brigade, and the first one is called Scorpius Rising.
These books are set in Montana in a small town with a bit of suspense in each one. The romance is the focus of these, and there’s some good humor. This is a band of brothers type of romance with a very involved and rather funny family. They’d be considered category romances and have dual POVs. The first book is Against the Wall.
I wasn’t sure where to categorize these stories. They lean more toward women’s fiction or even chick lit, featuring small-town hijinks as Anna solves a new case in each story. She has a very meddling family and ends up in very humorous situations while solving cases as a lawyer. In the first book, it appears she has three potential love interests (but only ends up with one), and by the second book, the love interest is obvious and develops each book. Fans love him. This is told in Anna’s POV in first person, past tense. The first book is Disorderly Conduct.
There are Christmas novellas as well, each featuring one of the Albertini brothers’ romance, and these are told in multiple POVs and third person. The first Christmas novella is called Holiday Rescue.
These seven books are about brothers created in a lab years ago who’ve gotten free while still being hunted by the scientists and the military man who trained them. They each find love and romance during a suspenseful time. Each book features the romance of a different couple, told through multiple POVs. The first four books are called the Sin Brothers and then the next three are a spinoff called the Blood Brothers. The series starts with Forgotten Sins.
This one features a group of men from around the world who were kidnapped and forced to work as mercenaries for years. They escaped and have made their way to Wyoming, trying to live normal lives as ranchers with a clubhouse. Their motto is: If it can be ridden, we ride it. (Meaning horses, snowmobiles, motorcycles…LOL). So far, the three prequel novellas have been published, and they’re each in an anthology. I should have a date for the series launching soon.
PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES: (More info here on website)
This series launched my career and is still going strong. The main characters are brothers who are vampires at war with other species. The vampires, demons, shifters, witches, and Fae are all just different species. They can go into sunlight, eat steak, and quite enjoy immortality. They only take blood in fighting or sex. There are fated mates, and once they mate, it’s forever with a bite, brand, and sex. They can’t turn anybody into a different species, so vampire mates don’t turn into vampires, but the mating process increases a human’s chromosomal pairs so they get immortality. The first book is called Fated. There’s a spinoff that’s really part of the main series, and the first book is called Wicked Ride. Then there’s a great entry point for the series (a new arc) called Vampire’s Faith. Each book in these features a new couple and is told in multiple POVs.
This is a paranormal series featuring wolf shifters set in Washington state. It’s sexy and fun. The first two books feature the same couple, and the rest of the books feature a new couple’s romance. These are told in dual POVs, and the first book is called Wolf. Yeah, it’s kind of on point. LOL.
DARK ROMANCE SERIES: (More info here on website)
This is a dark romance series featuring retellings of fairytales set in the modern world. Through time, four main families have learned to exchange health and vitality with certain crystals, and in today’s day and age, they use these crystals to power social media companies. They have mafia ties. This series is in first person, present tense - told from various POVs. It’s my only present tense series. It is dark (not hugely dark compared to some of the dark romances out there), so check the trigger warnings. The first book is called One Cursed Rose, and it’s a dark retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
